Study for the FINAL EXAM.

It is on Friday, May 29. We will be going over pp. 110-111 in the WB, studying Ch. 10 vocabulary on Tuesday, as well as the videonovela, and then working on review.

Please note: Conversation section of the exam may take place either Thursday or Friday. If you were absent in class on Friday and did not get the paper study guide, note that you will choose two chapters from 6-10 and talk with me in the conversation section only about that vocabulary. There are pictures to go with each conversation we would have. You can get those on Tuesday.

STUDY TIPS

  • Go through your textbook, paying close attention to all the grammar points. Capítulos 6 – 10, pp. 190-352 (just first part of Ch. 10). Vocabulary from all of the chapters will be used as a part of the exam questions for grammar points, but there will not be an emphasis on vocabulary for the written part of this test.

  • Go through your workbook, starting with Ch. 6 You might want to check past chapters, too, to review old concepts. It wouldn’t hurt to begin with the very simple things – you’ll realize how much Spanish you know!

  • Go through the “Repaso” exercises at the end of each chapter, also called “Prepárate para el examen.” There is also a summary of grammar at the end of each chapter, as well as a vocabulary summary.

  • There is an excellent “síntesis grammatical” (grammatical summary) at the end of the book, pp. R!6 – R23. It contains all of the grammar points in the book. Put post-its on the ones you’re not sure about, and write them out on separate paper. Go back to the chapter where they are discussed and give yourself a little lesson.

  • Use these verb charts in the back of the book to concentrate on your conjugations. Build up your verb knowledge from easy to hard, like this:

¨ Regular Present Tense -ar, -er, -ir

¨ Irregular Present Tense or just Irregular Yo Forms (such as ser, ir, venir, tener, etc.)

¨ El presente progresiv or Present Progressive: new verb form from Ch. 9, pp.. It will appear as its own section on this exam.

¨ Stem-Changing Verbs in Present Tense

E à IE, E à I, U à UE, O àUE

(Remember, these verbs are often regular verbs with regular

verb endings, so note if they are –ar/-er/-ir.

¨ Know about Conjugated Verbs + Infinitive, including special cases

(like tener+que, acabar+de, and verbs with “a” in between)

ex. Los estudiantes piensan estudiar mucho para el exámen.

Tengo que limpiar el dormitorio.

Vamos a estudiar.

¨Gustar and Encantar have an indirect object pronoun in front of them.

¨Study verbs that carry reflexive pronouns with them (like afeitarse)

¨ Regular Preterite Tense -ar, -er, -ir

¨ Irregular Preterite Tense

¨ Imperative Mode/ Affirmative commands, including use of pronouns

WHAT WILL BE ON THE FINAL EXAM?

50% REVIEW OF MATERIAL FROM CH 6-9

25% TESTING ON CH. 9

25% CONVERSATION QUIZ WITH ME ON A VOCABULARY TOPIC OF YOUR CHOICE; LISTENING AND READING COMPREHENSION ACTIVITIES

Note: These percentages are approximate.

Choose two conversation panels from Ch. 6-10 that you wish to focus on (these are on a paper study guide). That way, you can study that vocabulary more. Be prepared to have an informal conversation with me about them. You can see how I will grade you ahead of time. It’s your pick of topic. We will do some of it during the exam period, and some of it on the Thursday beforehand. Be prepared for the conversation on May 28.

Study Plan

You should begin by studying the review sections in each chapter, and then find out what you don’t know at the back of the book. Write out the areas of weakness.

On Wednesday, we will have a review session. At that time, I will answer any of your questions. On Tuesday and Thursday, we will work on vocabulary from Chapter 10.
